Thrifty Car Rentals was a challenger brand with limited marketing budget. We were challenged to help Thrifty stand out in the highly competitive car rental category while spending as little as possible – i.e. nothing. This inspired a series of guerrilla activations that took advantage of free media placements and airtime that would promote the Thrifty Thinking philosophy while driving brand awareness.

THRIFTY SUNRISE FREE PLACEMENT

During a live broadcast of Sunrise, Australia’s highest rating breakfast programme, we planted people in the audience to hold up giant starbursts behind the hosts.

THRIFTY TRUCK BILLBOARD

Continuing the Thrifty Thinking campaign, free ad space was created by “borrowing” someone else's ad space. A Thrifty truck was parked in front of one of the highest-traffic billboards in Sydney.

THRIFTY PROJECTED BILLBOARD

We created our own free billboard space by projecting the ad on a wall in the Sydney CBD.
